Planned Giving
In spring 2016, we learned that one of our members, Ida Bryan, had prayerfully and deliberately organized and committed her remaining financial resources to benefit our church. Ida was an immigrant who left her native Denmark for America and ended up in Davis, California. Ida found a home at DCC: she worshiped with us regularly; her church family walked with her through a divorce and struggles with her faith; we helped her move from her home to Covell Gardens when she was unable to live alone; and at the end, gracious church members journeyed with her toward a death with dignity.
Knowing her own deep desire for support and belonging, Ida often visited DCC friends in need; she served Brown Bag Lunches to the hungry in Davis; she was grateful for the church’s courage and dedication to the Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter; and she embraced DCC's vision of caring for people that fully includes all God's children.
Amazingly, we learned that Ida gave nearly four hundred thousand dollars to DCC through her estate. This is the same woman who once asked our Ministry of Congregational Care to return to SaveMart to exchange name-brand yogurts for generic ones! About half of her extraordinary gift will remain in an endowment fund to provide on-going support for programs to serve the elderly, and a significant amount is being invested in renovations to the Fellowship Hall (kitchen?), which benefits the shelter and many other community groups which the church hosts.
Ida’s gift of generosity is a recent example of the remarkable faithfulness of generations of DCCers. Over the years, the generosity of people like Ida has built a congregation that continues to contribute to the common good locally and around the world. There are so many ways to be generous, doing good in the world through an organization you can trust to be socially responsible, ethically-engaged, and spiritually-focused on things that matter to people like you and me.
You, too, can create a lasting legacy by investing in the good work of DCC. If you’re interested in offering any size gift, please contact Minister of Finance Maria Rodriguez, Pastor Chris or any member of the Legacy Team, so that we can understand how the desires of your heart can make the biggest impact. We also suggest you talk to your attorney, financial planner, and/or CPA.
Blessings. Blessings. Blessings to you, and on all you love.
